US Senator Diagnosed With Brain Cancer

US Senator John McCain has been diagnosed with brain cancer, his office also confirms it.

The tumour was discovered after the former presidential candidate underwent a minor procedure last week to remove a blood clot from above his left eye.

Popular comedian and actor, Okey Bakassi says the rate of drug abuse and consumption in Nigeria is alarming.

Okey lamented that more worrisome is the high number of Nigerian celebrities engaging in illicit drugs, which he said was bad influence on the youths.

Bakassi spoke when he appeared as a guest on Emma Ugolee’s ‘The Gist’ alongside African China and Sound Sultan.

Yesterday, the 19th of July, an armed mobile policeman fleeing from an irate mob after shooting a tanker driver disrupted banking operations at the Sterling Bank branch on Creek Road this morning. He ran into the premises of the bank to escape being lynched. 

Security operatives attached to the bank disarmed and arrested the fleeing mobile policeman but did not hand him over to the irate mob. 

The mob got upset and attacked the bank with the intention of unleashing mayhem on staff and customers. The branch’s reception area was vandalized and set ablaze. The security operatives attached to the branch prevented the mob from entering the branch while evacuating staff and customers before the arrival of police reinforcement. The branch has been temporarily shut down.

Police Men WHo Shot FRSC Officials In Abia Arrested


The Abia State Police Command has arrested and detained two security operatives involved in Saturday’s shooting of two officials of Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Aba.

The spokesman of the Command, Mr. Geofrey Ogbonna, who made the announcement yesterday in Umuahia, however, declined to disclose the identities of the operatives.

He said: “The shooting did not involve the police alone: an officer from the Department of State Services, DSS, was also involved.

“The two persons have been arrested and are being detained. Investigation into the incident has commenced.” Ogbonna said the Command condemned the ‘dastardly act’ and gave assurance that there will be fairness and justice at the end of the investigation.

A British woman who had worn contacts lenses for 35 years shocked her doctors when they found 27 lost contact lenses in her eye. The discovery shocked doctors who had never seen such a case before.

The 67-year-old patient was prepped for surgery at England’s Solihull Hospital to remove cataracts from her eyes. But the cataracts turned out to be a mass of 27 contact lenses lumped together.

Man Kidnaps Self, Demands N60m From Sibling


The Police in Lagos yesterday announced the arrest of a man who allegedly attempted to defraud his brother of N60m by staging his own kidnap.

The spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, confirmed the arrest to newsmen.

According to Famous-Cole, on July 3, one Victor Udoh reported to the command that his younger brother, Ufom Edet Udoh, was kidnapped by unknown persons at Liverpool in Apapa area of Lagos state.

Court Grants Bail To Suspected Badoo Cultists


Seven alleged members of the murderous Badoo cult, accused of bestial killings in Ikorodu area of Lagos, were today, docked at an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court.

They were charged with conspiracy and membership of an unlawful society.

The accused, Afolabi Kessington (25), Ismaila Shaibu (36), Mutiu Nurudeen (26), Ibrahim Bello (25), Lukman Mohammed (35), Gift Itafa (50) and Sheriff Adewunmi (23), all pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Fidelis Dike, said the accused committed the offences between July 3 and 5 at Powerline, Agbala area of Ikorodu and also at Irawo Estate, Owode Onirin in Lagos.

I Will Not Obey Your Suspension Order, NHIS Boss Tells Nigeria’s Health Minister

The suspended Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, Usman Yusuf, has officially replied the Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole.

In his letter dated July 12 on the official letterhead of the NHIS, Mr. Yusuf said he would not comply with the July 6 suspension order.

He acknowledged receiving the letter directing he proceeds on a three months suspension, but gave five reasons why he would not comply with the suspension.

Mr. Yusuf, 54, took over the state-run health insurance provider on July 29, 2016. But his reign at the health ministry parastatal has been fraught with allegations of fraud.

Lagos School Teachers Arraigned For Defiling 7 Pupils


Two teachers of Nazareth Junior and Senior College, Epe, Lagos State, have been arraigned before an Ogba Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defiling seven pupils of the school.

The teachers, Oke Mustapha and Yisau Musibau, were arraigned today on three counts bordering on sexual assault.

A native nurse, Abimbola Adessani, was also arraigned for administering drugs on a pupil who was impregnated by one of the teachers.

Photos: Five Killed As Container Falls On Commercial Bus In Ojota

No fewer than five persons lost their lives in the early hours of Saturday after a truck fell on a bus in the Ojota area of Lagos.

It was learnt that the occupants of the bus were church goers returning from a monthly vigil.

The accident occurred when a truck carrying two 20ft containers fell on a commercial bus with Reg. No. FST 944 XR, and crushed five persons to death on the spot.

Mr Adesina Jamiu, the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, who confirmed the accident, said that three other passengers were rescued.

The dead bodies were taken to Ikorodu General Hospital, while those alive were taken to Lagos State Emergency unit at old Toll Gate Alausa. More photos below;

Video: Venus Williams' Car Crash Emerge


The first footage of Venus Williams' car crash, in which an elderly man sustained fatal injuries, has been released, and shows the shocking moment the accident happened.

Venus' black 4x4 can be seen edging out at an intersection in Florida in the security footage, taken a few metres away.

It shows her 2010 Toyota Sequoia SUV being cut off by a vehicle in front of her turning left.

Venus then slowly travels forward when another car - the 2016 Hyundai sedan driven by  Linda Barson ran into her, leaving 78-year-old Jerome Barson another passenger with a head injury which later caused his death.

They allegedly connived to defraud their employer of the huge sum. Suspects were arraigned before a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja on Tuesday.

Presiding judge, Justice Oyefeso ordered the defendants to be remanded in Ikoyi prison pending the hearing of the bail applications by the defence counsels.

The matter was adjourned to July 11, 2017 for hearing of the pending bail.

Man Dumps Mother’s Body In The Middle Of The Road Because He Couldn’t Afford To Bury Her

A dead mother was found decomposing on the street after her son dumped her on the side of the road because he couldn't afford to bury her.

The unnamed 70-year-old had 'fluids oozing from her body' after being left by her unemployed son, 30, who had initially kept his mum for three days in his flat.

When the body began to decay, the man decided to take his mother's body to a street in the city of Saratov, in Russia 's Saratov Oblast region.

The jobless man left his mother covered in boxes on a dolly, having wheeled her out into the street to rot by the side of the road.

But the platform with wheels was subsequently stolen by a thief, and the elderly woman's body thrown into the middle of the road.

Shocking pictures show the abandoned body lying in the middle of the street, clearly decomposing.
Bodily fluids can be seen 'oozing' from the unidentified woman who has newspapers wrapped around her feet.

Police launched an investigation after her body was discovered at 3am.

Baby Sold For N650,000 Reunites With Parents

Nigeria police, Imo State command on Thursday reunited a 10-month-old baby, Tochukwu Peter, who was stolen and sold for N650,000, to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Okechukwu Peter.

Three suspects – Ogechi Chukwuocha, 42; Calista Igwe, 38; and Chimezie, 32 – were also paraded for their roles in the abduction of the little baby.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Enwerem, said the child was stolen from his mother, Udoka Peter, on June 15, 2017, in Ogbaku, in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state.

Supreme Court Sacks Abubakar Danladi From Nigerian Senate

The Supreme Court has sacked Abubakar Danladi from the Nigerian Senate. Mr. Danladi represented Taraba North in the Senate.

The apex court also ordered him to refund all salaries and allowances earned in the Senate within 90 days.

Mr. Danladi was sacked by the Supreme Court on the same day a member of the House of Representatives, Herman Hembe, was also sacked by the apex court.

18-Year-Old Nigerian Girl Graduates with Distinction From Howard University And Enrolls For PhD

While many students have just graduated from high school, 18-year-old Nigeria native Nkechinyere Chidi-Ogbolu is not your typical teen.

Chidi-Ogbolu just graduated summa cum laude from Howard University with a degree in chemical engineering — making her the youngest person to graduate from Howard this year, and one of the youngest in Howard’s history.

But that’s not all for Chidi-Ogbolu.

She’s now preparing to start a Ph.D. program at the University of California-Davis after the summer ends. She’ll be studying biomedical engineering with a focus on creating and discovering new medicines.
